The New England Rehabilitation Hospital Difference
    Embracing Technology

    1. Autoambulator ™:
Sophisticated treadmill device using the therapeutic concept of body weight-supported ambulation and robotics to help patients with gait disorders. Appropriate for patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury diagnoses.

    2. Interactive Metronome®:
Promotes motor learning through focus on performing tasks to a beat. Useful in neuromuscular re-education. Appropriate for patients with stroke and neurological impairments.

    3. Bioness H200: This non-invasive technology uses functional electrical stimulation to re-educate muscles and reduce spasticity, helping patients improve hand function and voluntary movement. Used with patients who have had a stroke or brain injury.

    4. SAEBOFLEX® wrist splint and exercise station:
Promotes increased function in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand through dynamic splinting combined with creative exercises. Used with patients who have stroke, traumatic brain injury and other neurological diagnoses.

    5. Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Bike:
Uses electrical current to initiate contractions of the paralyzed lower extremities. Using this system, an individual can actually pedal a leg ergometer or specially.

    6. Dynavision 2000:
A computerized board designed to improve visual motor skills, increase active upper extremity range of motion, and increase muscular and physical endurance. Used for stroke patients and neurological impairments affecting attention.

    7. VitalStim Therapy®:
Targets swallow function via electrical stimulation. Used in conjunction with traditional dysphagia therapy. Appropriate for patients who have swallowing disorders as the result of stroke or neurological diagnoses.

    8. LSVT® (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment):
Keep Your Voice Alive! New England Rehab Provides Treatment to Improve Speech for People with Parkinson's Disease

    9. Wii:
NERHP uses the popular Wii video system to help patients with motor skills and balance. Golfing, skiing, and boxing are some of the video games that are fun for patients but also help increase strength and mobility. Functional gains are made faster and help develop independence.

    10. Fluidotherapy:
Fluidotherapy circulates warmed cellulose particles around an extremity to provide heat for pain relief while allowing motion for stiffness. It is also the modality of choice for desensitization of scar tissue and treatment of chronic Regional Pain Syndrome or RSD.

    11. Hand Mentor:
The Hand Mentor provides feedback to the patient and therapist regarding motion through the splint on the forearm and hand. It offers activities to decrease spasticity for patients with neurological deficits, improve motor control, increase range of motion and strengthen muscles of the wrist and hand. It uses biofeedback to encourage active motion and provides assistance only as needed.

    12. PowerTower:
The PowerTower is a version of the total gym and can be used for all patient populations. It is used for strengthening and is available for use by both inpatients and outpatients.

    13. BTE Work Simulator:
The BTE Work Simulator can be used to strengthen patients by simulating various functional activities as well as measuring strength and endurance. These functional activities include lifting, rope pulling, opening a can, turning a screwdriver and many more. The therapist can increase the resistance to enhance a patient’s progression during therapy.

With the most sophisticated treatments and technology, patients can regain function, balance, strength, focus, proper gait, and so much more. For maximum results and restored hope for a higher quality of life, choose New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland.
