Spasticity Management
Spasticity can be an ongoing issue for many people with neurologic deficits. Spasticity can limit a person's ability to function at home, cause pain and compromise skin integrity. This clinic is designed to help address these issues. A physiatrist and physical therapist will discuss and evaluate the needs of the client. This information will then be discussed with the client/caregiver and a plan will be developed. Possible treatments include, but are not limited to, botox injections, phenol blocks and antispasticity medications as well as bracing and positioning recommendations. In addition to these approaches it may be recommended that the client follow through with a personalized program.
Seating and Positioning
The physical therapist, occupational therapist and physiatrist work together to determine the optimal wheelchair seating and positioning for the patient to thrive in his or her environment. In this comprehensive clinic we are able to evaluate the best possible system for mobility, breathing, eating, skin integrity and ability to participate in activities of daily living. After the assessment is complete and the information is gathered from the treating clinicians, a decision is made to determine the most appropriate wheelchair and also to assist with the prescription and payment process.
In addition to the clinic, the inpatient population is evaluated upon admission for an appropriate seating system and then assessed on an ongoing basis to allow patients to progress through their rehab stay.
